What's the Risk?

Combustible Dust

Combustible dust in dust collectors can increase the risk of fire, flash fire, deflagration & explosion. A Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) can determine if dust is combustible.

Extracted Fumes

Fume particulate consists of tiny airborne particles generated during industrial processes like welding and laser or plasma cutting. Over time, particle build-up in a collector's hopper can pose a significant fire hazard if not properly managed.

Dust Build-Up

Dust particulate consists of fine particles generated during industrial processes like cutting, sanding, or material handling. This build-up poses a significant fire hazard, as it can ignite if not properly managed.

Filter Material

The actual filter – often made of flammable material – can itself be a fire hazard. A single spark landing on this filter material is enough to trigger a fire, compromise your machine, and put people at risk.

The Firetrace Solution

Our CO₂ fire suppression system uses heat-sensitive detection tubing to trigger the automatic suppression of fire through displacement of oxygen.

More about our solution:

  • Indirect High Pressure (IHP) CO2 System
  • Suitable for Class A, B, C fires
  • Perfect fit for Dust collectors up to 900 cubic feet (~7-10,000 CFM)
  • Designed to meet NFPA12 requirements
  • FM approved (for systems up to 20 lb/ 120 cubic feet)

Pre-Engineered

Firetrace systems are pre-engineered, standardized and designed for low-effort planning &simple install.

ico-timer

Rapid

Firetrace's innovative detection tubing senses fires faster than traditional heat probes and without false alarms, common for smoke detectors.

ico-success

Clean

Mitigate fire risk without water damage or flooding and limit expensive clean-up and or reclamation costs.

Co2 Icon

Why CO2?

Recommended by NFPA

  • NFPA 654: CO2 effective at 75% MDC regardless of dust
  • NFPA 12: recommends CO2 for dust collectors at 75% MDC, CO2 is rated for deep seated Class A fires

Will not condense (unlike chemical clean agent with high boiling points)

Full coverage (unlike ABC dry chemical):

  • CO2 is a gas and diffuses to cover all areas after discharge.
  • Dry chemicals are suspended particle solids that need to hit a surface and build up layer. It does not diffuse as well, particularly around corners.

Faster suppression: Higher design concentration and quicker discharge (unlike inert gases)

Non-corrosive & case no water damage (unlike water-based systems)
